Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith‘s daughter Ava Maybee took to Instagram last Saturday (July 24) to share her cover of the band’s “Universally Speaking.”

Maybee, playing the piano, sang the stripped back version of the track from RHCP’s 2002 album By the Way to the accompaniment of pre-recorded backing vocals. The video also features Dave Sheridan.

RHCP released “Universally Speaking” as the fifth and final single off their eighth studio album. The song peaked in the top 40 of the U.K. single charts and was also featured on the band’s 2003 Greatest Hits compilation.

Maybee released her debut single “Lay Low” in December 2020 and followed it up with two new singles, “See Me Now” and “Colors,” in March and June 2021, respectively.
