SO…is trick or treating really like it was in “our day”? I know, I sound (again) like an old fart but is it??? Back in the day it was an EVENT!!! We planned not only our costumes but our routes, times, etc a month or more in advance. The candy was secondary and speaking of which ….CANDY in general was so much better back then too!! I DON’T CARE if I sound old…MANY of you are shaking your heads “yes” with me!! Then came the trick or treating. The streets would be full. You would take in all the costumes and think “man, I wish I thought of that one”. The people (most of them) were so nice and it seemed they really enjoyed given OUT to the trick or treaters as much as the costumed kids enjoyed getting. I know that the tradition is still there but it just doesn’t seem the same. Sure we had to check our candy way back then in case there was some NUTCASE that put something in the candy. It wasn’t totally innocent. (One thing I WILL admit is the decor at the houses. THAT certainly has changed for the better and kudos to the folks that go ALL OUT in spooking up their property for the Hallows eve!! Some of those are absolutely, hands-down AWESOME!!! NO…we didn’t have much of THAT back then.) But the excitement doesn’t seem near what it was in many cases. Either way if you are participating as a trick or treater or looking forward to seeing all the kids show up I wish you ALL THE BEST for a SAFE Halloween.
