Avril Lavigne Appointed To Order Of Canada

By RockDaily: WRLO Jul 1, 2024 | 4:03 AM

Avril Lavigne has been appointed to the Order of Canada.

She is one of the 64 new members named by Mary Simon, the Governor General of Canada.

“The Order of Canada recognizes individuals who have made positive and lasting impacts on communities here in Canada or who have brought honor to our country abroad,” said Simon.

The Order of Canada is one of the country’s highest honors, to which non-Canadians also are eligible if their contributions have brought benefit to Canada. It recognizes people across all sectors of society who have made extraordinary and sustained contributions to the nation.

A Member or an Officer of the Order of Canada can be promoted to a higher level if they demonstrate further exceptional achievement.

Lavigne is one of the best-selling female artists of all time. With more than 50 million albums sold worldwide, she paved the way for female-driven punk-rock music.

She supports individuals with serious illnesses, disabilities and Lyme disease through the Avril Lavigne Foundation. A global ambassador for Special Olympics, she also promotes inclusion and helps end the stigma around intellectual disabilities.

Appointees will be invited to an investiture ceremony at a later date to receive their insignia. The Office of the Governor General said dates of these ceremonies will be announced in due course.
